Succulents & Cacti

Succulents are plants that are native to deserts and dry climates and store water in their tissues. From cacti to crassulae, succulents are a beautiful addition to any home or yard, and they are easy to take care of. Click the arrow to learn more!

Sun: Indoor plants should be on a south or east facing windowsill. Outdoor plants should be in full sun. Succulents like temperature around 60-80 degrees.

Soil: Make sure you use well-drained soil that lets water pass through easily.

Water: Water deeply, then wait until the plant is completely dry before watering again. These plants don’t need too much water. Use a chopstick or similar item to check if the soil is dry before watering. Insert the chopstick into the soil. If it comes out clean, the soil is dry.

Tips & Tricks: Using a terracotta pot is a good idea because it dries quickly.

Flowers

Flowers are tricky because there are so many different types with different needs. Click the arrow to learn the basics for growing three popular flowers in your garden!

Roses: Roses need lots of water, about 4-5 gallons per week! Make sure you use organic soil, and keep it moist, but not soaking wet.

Sunflowers: Sunflowers need full sun (at least 6-8 hours per day), and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Water deeply about once a week. Try to plant sunflowers in an area that is sheltered from strong winds, like near a fence or building.

Tulips: Plant tulip bulbs in the autumn. Plant in an area with full or afternoon sun. Use well-draining soil that is neutral or slightly acidic, fertile, and dry or sandy. Make sure you don’t use soil that is too moist. Water weekly unless it rains.
